Ramblings of a Crazy Lady Volume 1
Ok … I’m not really crazy, my kids think I am, but they made me this way, so there is that. The purpose of this little corner of our Facebook page is to kind of keep you up to date on what we are working on … and why.
So, a while back, before craft fair season went in to full swing, I rescued some upholstery fabric samples from a furniture store that was going to throw them out. We can’t have that, now can we??? I knew at the time what I was going to make with them … it was just making myself actually do it.
Then the holidays rolled around, and blah blah blah. And here we are with the whole … new year, let’s get organized rah rah rah. And I looked at this stack of samples that I had and went okay … let’s do this.
I want you to think about something. When you go to the grocery store and you check out, how many plastic bags get used (if you already have reusable bags, GO YOU!)? I made several from fabric I had on hand and took them with me to the store – I had 4 with me – that should be enough, right??? WRONG!! Now my husband and I go to the store twice a month for the most part and we have dogs who eat better than we do. The next time I took 7 … SEVEN, still didn’t have quite enough so I’ll throw a couple more in the bag ‘o bags and carry on. But I digress, here’s what I want you to ponder … I read somewhere the other day, one reusable bag replaces something like 783 plastic bags. 783!!! Not to mention, my seven reusable bags would have probably been, somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-17 plastic ones when you think about double bagging etc. for just that trip. I have purchased the ones the stores sell with not a lot of success, but that’s me. Bought one at a store, put a box of something in the bag and split it with the corner of said box *facepalm*. Some of the grocery stores will give you credits for bringing in your own bags – what a concept!
Why do I bring all this up … because while I am still in the process of making bags from these samples, letting you know they are available in our shop for a measly $5 plus shipping, but once these are gone they are gone. They are lined with fabric and machine washable in cold water, don’t recommend putting in the dryer. I will do some checking around to see if I can acquire more fabric samples but not making any promises. I do make slightly larger ones from fabric I have actually paid money for, but I do have to charge a little more for those , but that’s another story for another time.
Now there were also smaller samples included in my acquisition and those are being sewn up in to zippered bags that would be great for … just about anything you would use a zipper bag for – put your coupons in it, put your makeup in it, your money, credit cards … stuff. These are also lined with fabric and again – machine washable in cold water and air dry. These are a paltry $3 plus shipping. Check out our Etsy site. We ship on Wednesday and Friday.
